Stansbury - on whose former estate it is situated.

One of the major employees of Towson is John Hopkins Hospital and Towson University.  This is the second largest university in Maryland and a member of the university system of Maryland. Established in 1866, Towson University features a beautiful three hundred twenty-eight-acre campus and is nationally recognized for its excellent programs in the arts, sciences, business, communications, humanities, health professions, and computer information systems. Also in the area are a numert of higher education institutions, including: The University of Maryland, Villa Julie College, College of Notre Dame of Maryland, Coppin State College Goucher College, Johns Hopkins University, Loyola College, and Morgan State University. 

Preparing students for the excellent higher education opportunities is the Baltimore County School District which offers an excellent range of programs including advanced placement, magnet school program and numerous private and parochial schools.

The community is home to retail, government, education, and health and medicine, offering study employment to its residents. The  newly renovated Towson Center is both an opportunity for employment , and also has  excellent shopping opportunities and fine dining.
